Lineolated parrots or "linnies" as they are affectionately called, are fast becoming popular with aviculturists. They are a small parrot, about 6 1/2 inches long and stocky built. They come in a variety of beautiful colors (as well as the normal green which is also gorgeous) and have affectionate, even tempered personalities.
As pets they cannot be beat! Their natural calls consist of a variety of chirps (no screaming) and most pet linnies learn to talk quite clearly. They are very curious and love to hang out with their people and see what they are doing. Some owners who keep their linnies flighted, say that their birds will fly into other rooms to be with them.
They are very affectionate and enjoy attention. They love to cuddle up next to your neck and have their little cheeks rubbed! The more attention your linnie receives, the better pet it will be! They make nice family birds.
They are excellent eaters. My linnies love their fresh veggie mix they receive every day as well as diced apples. They also eat a high quality cockatiel seed mix, cook n' serve mixes, sprouted grains and seeds, and pellets. They pick up their food in their feet like the larger parrots which is fun to watch!
Our linnies make adorable pets. We spend a lot of time with them. We give them lots of snuggles and attention as well as more structured interaction such as teaching them to step up on the hand. They also learn to play with toys and wean to a variety of nutritious foods.
